Ballroom Dance/Ross Cotillion (6th-7th Gr. Boys)

We are delighted to have a spectacular staff from the Dance Arts Studios of San Rafael join us to teach the fall Ballroom Dance class. They are experienced in teaching children and teenagers throughout the Bay Area. Children are required to dress up for dancing class. Boys should wear a jacket, tie and dress shoes; girls should wear dresses and dress shoes. No black rubber soles on shoes. Parents are required to chaperone at least once during the season (and it is FUN)! Please call the office with the dates you can chaperone. Class size is limited.
Dates for the class are on Mondays from 7-8pm, and the last class will be a 2 hour party. To ensure the same number of boys and girls in each class please select the appropriate class. The boys and girls will be in the same class. 9 weeks. No class 12/18, 12/25, 1/1, 1/15

Academic Chess is designed for everyone from the beginner to the advanced player. With our innovative teaching methods, attendees will learn the basic principles behind the opening game, middle game tactics/objectives, and endgame strategies.
Learning this ancient game, participants will develop patience, foster critical thinking skills, and understand that decisions result in consequences. All participants will receive our exclusive workbooks.
Academic Chess-A non-profit organization that has been teaching chess in schools for nearly 20 years. With our unique style of teaching, our goal is to make learning fun for all students in a safe, nurturing environment. Notable students of Academic Chess have gone on to win National Championships and one became (at the time) the youngest Master in US History. Green Dot Ball - Junior Team Tennis League is the next transition level from red ball team place. Kids ages 9-12 play full court with slightly modified balls. This transition allows kids to rally with balls that are very similar to the real thing but are still lighter and less bouncy than regulation tennis balls. Kids have a team practice once a week and play matches on Fridays versus other Marin County teams. Schedule will be determined just prior to the season for exact dates and locations. Introduction to Good Manners - Monday

If your child has never attended an etiquette class, this is the one-time workshop not to miss, for your child to gain the basics to self-introductions, handshaking, eye contact, and other tips on attending parties with or without parents. An introduction to basic table manners, from start to finish, including a 3-course tutorial dinner.

Parents request this program again and again so we are continuing to bring back our etiquette expert, Syndi Seid, who is a graduate of The Protocol School of Washington. She has appeared on "Good Morning America", KRON, KPIX, KGO, KTVU and KQED.
Parents are encouraged to enroll with their child (average one parent per child), although kids may enroll without a parent. Check-in is at 3:45pm with the seminar starting promptly at 4pm.

Mountain Bike Camp

Come blaze the trails this summer with experienced down hill rider and instructor Dan Heffernan. Gain the confidence and endurance necessary to enjoy mountain biking safely while having fun and learning new skills to improve your riding abilities. All levels of riders welcome, come enjoy the week exploring the many trails of the Mt.Tam watershed on your bike!
Dan Heffernan was born and raised in Fairfax, CA, a graduate from Sir Francis Drake High School. Dan spent most of his childhood exploring the endless trails of Marin on his bike. During his 20's, he got involved in down hill mountain bike racing and competed throughout California in events like the Northstar series and the Gravity Racing Tour. He is prepared to share his tips, tricks, and knowledge and get kids excited and confident on 2 wheels!
*What to bring: a proper fitting geared mountain bike in good working order, a proper fitting helmet, water bottle or camelbak, a hearty lunch and snacks.
*What to wear: closed-toe shoes comfortable to ride in, t-shirt and a warm layer, full fingered bike gloves, sunscreen, and padded bike shorts (are recommended).
*No worries policy: We will conduct a mandatory pre-camp bike and gear safety check to ensure everyone's equipment is of the right fit, adequate, and ready to ride!

Ross Recreation is conducting a 3-day camp designed for players new to the sport. Our goal is to teach basic skills and game fundamentals while having fun scrimmaging and being active. This is a great opportunity for players to gain exposure to field hockey, as they think about what sports to pursue in high school. Field hockey is a new team sport to many Bay Area high schools, which means more girls have the chance to make a high school team and build lasting friendships!

Camp will be led by coach Aline Copp. Aline is a former Harvard University NCAA Division I varsity field hockey player and is currently coaching at the high school level in Marin.

Required Equipment:
• mouth guard
• shin guards (soccer ones are acceptable)
• running shoes (turf shoes or cleats are acceptable footwear)
• plenty of water and a bar/snack
• field hockey sticks and balls will be provided

Note: all players MUST have a mouth guard AND shin guards or they will NOT be allowed to participate. Clinic is open to girls entering 6th 7th or 8th grades. **Space is limited to the first 24 players*

Campers will be divided into groups based on grade and skill level. The focus of this camp will be on basketball and personal development. We will focus on positive attitude, energy, teamwork, dribbling, ball handling, shooting, rebounding, passing, 1-on-1 moves, post moves, and "defense, defense, and more defense." Each day will consist of skill development and competitive games.
Lunch may be purchased on campus ($35/week or $10/day).
The daily drop-in is $50/day.

Adventure Camp

This year, Adventure Camp is undergoing some fun and exciting new changes, which means some fun a\
nd exciting new destinations! Some of the favorites remain, like Driven Raceway, Six Flags and Water World. But new adventures await your camper at locations like: Oakland Ice Rink, EpiCenter, Rebounderz, Sonoma Ropes and Zip Line, and the awesome Paintball Jungle. We will be adding in a throwback trip to Angel Island as well. Wednesdays are now a home-base day for some on-site camp fun and to provide a mid-week break from traveling. Scavenger hunts, water fights, relay races, local hiking and fishing outings, massive slip and slides and mini olympic tournaments will keep the fun going. Pizza lunch is included on these home-base Wednesdays!^M
On travel days, campers will divide into small groups for our fun-filled days based on their age and interests. Whether your child is 8 or 15 years old, this is a great place to meet friends and enjoy adventures which take them to all theplaces they dream of going. This is an extremely popular and very unique camp where "we know your name," and know how to spend our summer days to the fullest!

We have Marin's best, most fun and highly experienced camp counselors led by Jean Marc Schafer, rounding out the Adventure Camp experience. Our core summer counselor staff are ALL returning for another amazing summer: Sandrick, Jeff, and Jenny are excited to get their summer on! Are you?
Just ask the kids that return year after year (including most of the counselors who were once our campers) how much they LOVE this camp!

*Please pick up children promptly by the time stated on the schedule. On Fridays, please pick up your child at 1pm at the COM pool*

Tennis Skills Fun & Games 7-12

Ross Recreation is offering Junior Tennis Mini Camps for kids between the ages of 5-14. Tennis in Marin coaches in conjunction with the USTA have now been using modified tennis balls, court sizes and smaller rackets with great success! Introduction to tennis with simple activities and games that produce both fun and early motor skill development. Participants will use special equipment designed for this age group.
Tom Sadzeck - Head Pro & Director of Junior Tennis with "Tennis In Marin." Tom has been teaching tennis to students of all ages for the past 22 years in Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico, and at local Marin County clubs including TPC, Lagunitas Country Club, and Canon Swim & Tennis Club. Tom has spent over 15 years as Director of Tennis Camps at various facilities throughout Marin County and is currently Director of the Marin County Junior Tennis League.
Tom is the author of three tennis books including his most successful, "Tennis Skills" which has sold over 44,000 copies worldwide. Tom has also written articles for "Tennis" and "Addvantage" magazines, has been featured on "Coach Tennis America," and has lectured on junior tennis for USPTA conferences. He is currently registered as "Pro 1" with the USPTA and has been a member for the past 21 years.

You don't need to pick baseball over soccer, flag football over dodgeball, basketball over lacrosse or swimming; we have them all and you can play nonstop in this unique camp that is a sporty kid's dream. Learn the individual fundamentals of Lacrosse through fun games and competitions! From picking the ball up off the ground and cradling--passing, catching and shooting--to team concepts, you will learn why lacrosse is sweeping the nation with such energy and excitement.

Coach Drew Virk was born and raised in Ross. Drew played football and lacrosse in high school at St. Ignatius, before he went out to play at the University of Maryland. Drew played professionally for 5 years after he graduated. Drew has been coaching in the Bay Area since 2000, when he started the Marin Catholic Junior Varsity program. He further gained experience coaching at St. Ignatius College Preparatory and University High School in San Francisco. Coach Virk was at the helm of the Stanford men's lacrosse program for the past 10 years. Drew is excited to bring his 22 years of lacrosse experience back to his home town.
